Dial Up Networking Error 799


Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) cannot be enabled due to an IP address conflict on the network. ICS requires the host be configured to use 192.168.0.1. Please ensure that no other client on the network is configured to use 192.168.0.1.


Fairly self explanitory issue.


Likely you have a machine on your local network that has the same IP as the ICS (Internet Connection Sharing). If you have two machines with the same IP address, not all the packets will go to the right places and everything just starts grinding to a halt because only half your packets are getting to the internet..

If you installed a new router, chances are it uses the IP address 192.168.0.1 by default (dlink, linksys, gnet, netgear all do this, if you can, go in and change the IP address.. Another question is why would your router be on this internal network?? Your gateway for your local network is the ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) PC.. not the router, and that PC forwards packets to the router to the internet..


Check your design, maybe someone plugged your router into your internal network, not to the other side of the ICS PC..

Better yet.. use the router for your connection sharing not a PC, routers by default are designed for it.. We all know what happens when your PC has the Windows Blue Screen of death.. now when your ICS PC has the blue screen, everybody on your network loses the internet, and maybe even local printers, etc.. Use the router and remove ICS unless it needed for other reasons.
